The first day of the International Conference on African Cultures which is underway at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe set the tone for what seems to be a very explosive event. All of the speakers and panelists who took to the stage shared one sentiment, that Africa needs to start telling its own story now!

The tone was set in motion by a very motivational and shaking keynote speech by  Molefi Kete Asante, a leading figure in the field of African Studies. This was followed by a series of panels discussing different issues affecting the growth and sustainability of Art and the rise of the African Culture. Check out the picture gallery above to get a glimpse of what went on.
