Our Golden Pilsener Afro Fusion Experience

On a late Saturday afternoon we were sipping on a few frothy sundowners as batches of people filtered into Belgravia Sports Centre in Harare. First slowly and then a lot faster as the evening progressed. Ray Dizz, Selekta Base and Fujee  set the pace for the evening as they prepped the crowd for the well travelled main acts for the night. The Ray Dizz  set stood out to us for three reasons:  firstly it was awesome,  second he had his own very well endowed femme dancers revving the crowd and thirdly he wore a gas mask which could have either been read as a politically incorrect quip or something cool like Deadmau5, Daft Punk and Galantis ‘cool’! Either way let the record show that Ray Dizz is a Cool Kid! Ray Dizz ZimbabweListening to Fujee and Selekta Base was awesome, a refreshing Dancehall/ Urban led mix minus the (unnecessary) chanting. As the first live performing act Ammara Brown was as sassy as ever performing chart topping ‘Mukoko’ and rapping Tytan’s part like a boss in living colour…respect!  T Bass did not disappoint, as per usual his bass pumping House mix was ‘Easy to Love’; speaking of which, having watched Bucie battle with her last performance at Shoko Festival attributing to a few things including a tough crowd, it was awesome to see her ‘bring it’!

Her acoustic version of  ‘Turning Me On’ lacked anything but sex-appeal with stage antics that got a few…hot under the collar on a cool Saturday night.

DJ Tira’s performance was  hard to put in actual coherent sentences. He owned the stage and the crowd, mixing some current favourites including  his Babes Wodumo production ‘Wololo’,  his Micasa collaboration ‘Barman’ and some music that had us giving away our real ages as we took a musical trip down memory lane. Dj Tira’s set though short was definitely worth the wait all with enough time to show us some trendy dance moves! Jah Prayzah topped the night with a familiar but entertaining performance.

The live version of his Diamond Platnumz collaboration ‘Watora Mari’ was a nice touch and by the time he closed with the Album titled Single ‘Mdhara Vachauya’ and older single ‘Hello’  the crowd was manic!

The Golden Pilsener Afrofusion Concert succeeded amidst generous amounts of scepticism with  a pool of nearly 4,000 Music lovers who came to ‘Celebrate the Legend’. These folks certainly know how to  throw quite a shindig!  It was just as LE-GEN-DARY as the brand itself. Cheers! As we count down to exciting Bulawayo event this weekend!
