In a wide-ranging interview with Mambaonline.com, blue-haired gqom star and self-proclaimed “president of female orgasm” Sanelisiwe ‘Moonchild Sanelly’ Twisha revealed that she is dating a woman and is exploring her sexuality.

Asked how her sexuality or sexual identity has developed and if she has always been aware of her queerness, the Gqeberha-born sexually empowering persona said she does not consciously decide who she dates, men or women.

‘I don’t know about evolving but I know that I have played around. This is something that has existed in my music and in my existence. So if you have to read between the lines you would have an idea that I am queer. It is, however, my first time dating a woman. But I don’t consciously decide whether I want to date men or women. This is me being a person, exploring their sexuality,’ she said.

In the same interview, Sanelly – a mom to three daughters- said there was never a time when she felt the need to come out to family and friends, underlining that it’s not her ‘burden’.

‘I have never had to explain how I live to anyone. So there’s no coming out of anything for me. I’m just myself and you just adjust, because if you don’t, you are not going to stop me from living my life. That comes from me not caring about people’s opinions of me because if I am happy, that is the priority. Coming out for anyone to be pleased, happy, or comfortable is not my burden. I don’t even think about it because I just live my life.’

The ‘Boys and Girls’ maker reiterated the need to open an adult club that offers security and confidence to different people. She said:

‘The reason I always say I’m going to open a sex club — and I still will — is that I [would like to offer] security and confidence where people don’t care about their shapes, their sizes, and people don’t get violated because they’re walking around naked. I just want to create a safe space for my community. I stand for sex liberation and it’s only natural really.’

Sanelly has always described herself as fearless, a trait she says came from her mother who ‘taught her to never follow but to always lead’. She said fearlessness is something that she had as a kid and she believes fear is a concept created by adults who limit themselves.

‘I have always stood for anything that society doesn’t understand, period! Whether it’s a black girl, whether it’s a young girl or an abused girl, or a black person or a queer person. I have always stood for anything that society chooses to reject,’ she said.
