A few months after his blazing hot track “Casanova” perked at the crest of both Trace Africa and MTV Base Africa, Grammy-nominated US-based Zimbabwean artist Dr. Chaii makes yet another tremendous return with another memorable single, “Dirty.
Watch the visuals for “Dirty” below.
Featuring two of the hottest British-Nigerian rappers Jiggy Boy Kida Kudz and Big Tobz who famous for his nominal hit song “Respect Your Barber“, the joint is an upbeat yet raunchy offering built over a bass-heavy and rich sounding production. An enchanting and high energy music video, the trio’s high level of chemistry and collective respect carries over to the visuals, directed by James Davis II and fellow Zimbabwean creative based in the USA, Bantu.
Between his previous release, “Casanova” and the new single “Dirty”, it’s clear that Chaii is on a path to bless us with a depth of content that continues to make him stand out among the repetitive and formulaic trends of hip-hop/afrobeat today.
The while, Dr. Chaii’s catalogue continues to make a global impact with its infectious rhythms and colourful sounds. His latest release Casanova reached #1 on Trace Africa & MTV Base Africa, making it one of the most successful afrobeats videos of 2020. The song was also featured on both Spotify and Apple Music’s biggest afrobeat playlists.
“Bongo”, another one of his jams released in 2019, was premiered by Ebro on Beats 1 Radio and received spins on Capital XTRA, Real 92.3 and 103.5 The Beat. The song was also starred on major Apple Music playlists such as Best of the week, Future Hits, A-List African and Afrobeats Hits. The single’s colourful music video was shot in Havana, Cuba and has had support from major TV stations including MTV Base and Trace Africa.
His collaborative effort “Jackie Chan” featuring frequent associate and friend Bantu appeared on the FIFA 19 soundtrack, hit #23 on the UK Viral Chart, and #32 on Netherlands Viral Chart. It has acquired 166,261 Shazams, 5.9m+ streams on Spotify and 1.2m+ on Apple Music. The music video now has 2m+ plays on YouTube.
Beyond his own artist projects, Chaii has also produced and written for the world’s biggest artists. His credits include Jason Derulo’s single “Tip Toe” feat. French Montana, “Questions” by Chris Brown, “No Lie” by Sean Paul & Dua Lipa, “Por Favor” by Pitbull & Fifth Harmony, and two Grammy-nominated songs, “Hey Ma” by J Balvin, Camila Cabello, & Pitbull, and “Familia” by Anuel AA, Nicki Minaj & Bantu.
