Nyasha David Releases New Album “Songs Of David” (Stream)

SO, how exactly would you describe the Nyasha David to a curious R&B fan?

Hmmm.

It’s a tricky business, but in October 2020, upon listening to his “Marry Anne/Mariana” jam, I wrote a piece in which I asserted:

“A strong, inspiring, songwriter and singer nestled into traditional African R&B elements with fantastic songs, Nyasha David is the guy to watch”

Well, I’m pretty excited that I could have been right about one thing: The Advocate Of Love dude is one to watch. After months of the stalling pandemic and rolling banging singles, the smooth singing and the talented Nyasha David has just released his latest (debut?) album “Songs Of David” and you can stream it now on YouTube.

It’s too early to say that this body of work certifies Nyasha as that act the game has been missing, but one thing is for sure: the production is really compelling, thanks to Golden Fingers, Rodney Beatz, Hughclaid Kalino, among many other producers who tailored the album.

See, I was anticipating for this album (and I’m down to love it) but in the world of R&B, I’ve been pretty critical of modern-day album rollouts – many of which have essentially boiled down to the artist tweeting “hey, y’all, my album drops Friday!” and a subsequent “hey, y’all, which songs y’all feeling from my album?” later that weekend.

Then, silence. And they wonder why these albums fade into obscurity in a week.

That said, it’s unfair to put Nyasha David in the same category as every other R&B artist. From the strong songwriting, the engrossing production and the impassioned vocals that he has exuded over the minute he has been serenading, he deserves a chance to prove himself.

NB: This is not a review, by the way. The review will come in due course.
