Lake of Stars is an international arts festival held on the lakeshore in Malawi showcasing one of the most diverse mixes of traditional and African music alongside international acts. The festival also offers art, poetry, fashion, markets, food, family activities and more. This year sees the African Festival hosting more than 70 acts over 3 days.
Set on the serene northern shores of Lake Malawi, which boast white sandy beaches and crystal clear water it makes for a magical backdrop for this weekend’s cultural indulgence.
The festival began over a decade ago as a cultural-tourism inspired project by the then student volunteer Will Jameson. Since then the annual event has attracted thousands of people from Europe, Malawi and Southern Africa. To date Lake of Stars have hosted African and international artists alike such as Afrikan Boy, Andy Cato (Groove Armada), Annie Mac, Bombay Bicycle Club, Christian Tiger School, Eddy Temple-Morris, Felix B (Basement Jaxx), Olive Mtukudzi and Mokoomba.
This year’s line-up is as exciting as ever, featuring artists such as South African‘Waka Waka’ and ‘Doo Be Doo’ legends Freshly Ground , Malawian Psychedelic Gospel star Faith Mussa and Zambian ‘Amarulah’ churning Roberto. Lake of Stars kicks off on Friday the 30th of September 2016.
