In Pursuit of Dopeness : King Kandoro, a Comedy Kingdom in the Making?

“Comedy means different things to different people”

To me, comedy has long been something to seek out for the laughter and something pleasant to talk about in social settings. From comedy sitcoms like Friends, funny movies like Panic Mechanic to Stand-up Comedy specials like The Original Kings Of Comedy; Comedy has always been something I loved watching on screen. That and real-life funny moments of course. In recent times I have come to discover comedy in other forms and that’s thanks to King Kandoro.

Born a couple decades and a half ago in a country where the people have learnt to joke about everything, good or bad that happens around them, King Kandoro (known to me as MK) stands apart as a guy making jokes for comic relief. Of course, he wouldn’t be the only Comedian with an agenda beyond laughs and applause, but his work is pretty darn impressive so far.

There are several things that Kandoro is involved in that I consider to be dope, here are a few of my favourites.

Madhorofiya Socials.

A get together of people that enjoy King Kandoro’s work enough to want to pay to enjoy some of it live with others who enjoy his work. It is, in effect, a fan club chill session that I have been happy to attend on two occasions.

The Big Overview

This radio segment is on ZiFM Stereo personalities, Tich Mataz and Amard’s show, titled The Big Show. Kandoro says he does the segment pretty much to make people laugh during lunchtime on Fridays.

Nice guy right?

Sadza In The Morning

This is a podcast Kandoro hosts with Nick Titan. This podcast has become a fast and firm favourite among young Zimbabweans who indulge in the podcasting culture. The popularity of the podcast can be attributed to several things, among them, is the fact that it is really funny, and also littered with commentary on very real social, political and economic issues that are absolutely relevant to the listeners.

Magamba TV

Magamba Network is the team behind Shoko Festival and it provides King Kandoro with what can be considered his day job. As the Projects Officer for Magamba TV, King Kandoro’s work there includes concept creation, content creation and general project management. Magamba TV is a project under the banner of the former, which boasts a number of other prominent projects like Moto Republik Community, Shoko Festival and Citizen’s Manifesto to name a few.

Now, considering that he only started working for Magamba Network in March of 2017, it is a reasonable assumption to make that King Kandoro works hard enough. Shows enough promise and is gifted enough to take on all these roles and responsibilities.

Kandoro considers the resume sounding stuff he’s involved in to be the most valuable platforms. Platforms he uses to share his understanding of the world around us, making sense of what he remembers from childhood and experiences of adulthood. A platform that is not to be wasted by neglecting the real things in life that need to be addressed and hopefully understood.

Kandoro also desires to make a great living out of comedy, a desire he works on actualising on a daily basis. What drives him is the hope that his success can serve as yet another example of the value of diligent dedication towards a pursuit of passion. An example that will inspire everyone to expand their own opportunities, regardless of background or what society expects their limits to be.

Now that’s dope.
