We can’t keep calm! The final season of Game of Thrones is almost here and we aren’t ready! Know the best way to be ready? A great way to prep is to look back; whether it’s binge watching the last 7 seasons of reminiscing over the characters that came and went ever so abruptly!
If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you’ll know that it features several unorthodox couples, rivalries, unexpected friendships, and very unusual marriages. In honour of the impending GoT season, here are some of our favourite couples.
Ned Stark and Catelyn Stark
“Love didn’t just happen to us. We built it slowly, stone by stone, over the years.”―Catelyn Stark to Robb Stark!
How deep especially for an arranged marriage! Catelyn Tully- Stark the eldest daughter of Hoster Tully, Lord of Riverrun and Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Her father arranged for her to marry Brandon Stark, the eldest son and heir of Lord Rickard Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Lord Paramount of the North.
Tyrion Lannister and Shae
Shae began an exclusive relationship with Tyrion Lannister during the time when he was fighting in the Lannister army as part of the Vanguard during the Battle of the Green Fork. When he was sent to King’s Landing to be acting Hand of the King, he took Shae with him in defiance of his father’s orders.
Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen
Drogo, a powerful Dothraki Khal and feared warrior met Daenerys, the “Mother of Dragons” in the first season. Their union was an arrangement by Illyrio Mopatis and Daenerys’s brother, Viserys Targaryen, who hoped to use Drogo’s Dothraki horde to win back the Iron Throne.
Jon Snow and Ygritte
Jon Snow and Ygritte are star-crossed lovers from the Night’s. At first, Jon rejected Ygritte’s advances, not only due to his vows but also because he did not wish to dishonour Ygritte and hurt her feelings, as sooner or later, he’d have to leave her and return to the Night’s Watch. Later they fall madly and share a deep yet short-lived affection; well not quite in real life actors Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie are very married!
Gear up for more couple match-ups both love and devious in season eight of Game of Thrones, starting 15 April at 22:00 on M-Net 101 on DStv. If you still need to catch up, don’t despair, Showmax has you covered.
