A new show is on its way Zimbabwe and never in our wildest dreams had we ever imagined anything like this. However, we can confirm that a Big Brother spinoff is in the works in Zimbabwe and to cap that off. It will be called Big Sister!
It’s been dubbed ‘Zimbabwe’s first reality show’, although we know of a few fly-by-night enterprises that failed to take off or even leave a mark. One that comes to mind is Zim Inestayera, that required contestants to pay a certain fee for registration in a bid to land a spot in a lucrative cross-country resort and cultural sites themed challenges. The contestants were bad. Production was awful and the storyline brought tears of disappointment.
When we heard of a new reality TV series coming through, those terrible memories above came to mind. Zimbabwe has never had a properly executed reality television show except for Battle of the Chefs Harare which was heavily bankrolled by the retail giant, TM – Pick’n’Pay. The thoughts get scarier because, in this particular concept, they have chosen to rip off straight from an established global reality TV franchise. There should be no room for failure at all.
The show is reportedly going to be shot at a home in Glen Lorne with 30 contestants from June to mid-July. The housemates will battle it out for a chance to get their hands on a grand prize of US$25 000. However, the angle of adding a feminine figure to control the houses resonates with the current global feminism mantra, if it’s legitimately like that not just for the aesthetics.
We will give Big Sister the benefit of the doubt, provided they deal with those awful graphics they are using. No shade, just advice!
