President Emmerson Mnangagwa has addressed and led the nation in repentance and offered his prayer for Zimbabwe to the almighty God for intervention in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was speaking to the nation at the event of the Presidential National Day of Prayer and fasting which took place at the State House in the capital and was attended by representatives of various Christian denominations across the country as well as those from the Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Greek communities.

Here we have transcribed HE’s prayer, in case you missed it.

Dear God, Jehovah and the Holy True God, Father of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

I humble myself before you together with people of Zimbabwe over whom you have made me a servant leader. I yield my heart; we yield our hearts as a nation in faith and repentance to the rule and lordship of your son and our saviour Jesus Christ. We repent before you of every sin and way in which we displeased you and not glorified you alone as God. Forgive those who have worshipped idols and false gods. Forgive us at all our immorality and cleanliness. Forgive us for every act of injustice or corruption that has made the poor to suffer of the innocent to die. Forgive us as individuals and as a nation even for the sins of which we may be unaware. Clean us with the blood of your Son and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lord, as we face this grievous pestilence of the coronavirus which has already killed some of our beloved ones, we make a petition to you Oh God according to Habakkuk chapter 3 verse 2 which reads and I quote, “Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.”

You’re a merciful God and we ask you today that you forgive our sins and heal our land, the land of Zimbabwe. Make this storm to cease. Stop the advance of this virus and the death which it caries. We thank you that you gave us lead time to prepare against this pandemic. But now Lord, grant us wisdom. Show us the steps to take to overcome this virus. We also ask that you show us a cure for this virus.

Comfort and help all our people who have suffered loss. As we pray for ourselves, we also pray for Africa our continent but indeed also for the rest of the world.

We ask all this in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,

Amen.

Let us all continue in prayer emboldened by the reassurance given to us in 1 John 5 vs 14-15, which says “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

God bless you all,

God bless Zimbabwe

I thank you,

Amen.
