Zimbabwean Bulawayo-based Afro-pop sensation and Dreamstar alumni
MJ Sings is headed to Harare where he will perform at the
First Fridays event at the
National Gallery of Zimbabwe. The Afro-Pop/Soul and AfroJazz singer offers some necessary new talent on the music scene with stunning tunes such as
Our Story,
Dali Wami,
Phakade and
Ngizobuya.
The 27-year-old budding star promised fans in Harare a journey through music with teasers of his upcoming EP.
“I’m super excited to be in Harare this weekend. I just want to take the fans through the whole journey of MJ Sings, from the day I started singing, to where I’m at right now,” he said.
With influence from musical juggernauts such as
Oliver Mtukudzi, Ed Sheeran and Jabu Khanyile; MJ Sings’ flair has been recognised and appreciated by music critics and broader audiences worldwide. He’s been compared often to the South African talents of Ringo Madlingozi and Ntando.
The highlights of his career include becoming a finalist at the 2015 China-Zimbabwean National Search Dreamstar Zimbabwe and inking a deal with Boom Studio under Sony’s former A&R and former Idols South Africa Judge, Dave Thompson in the same year. To date, MJ Sings he has collaborated with artists such as hip-hop sensation Cal_Vin, Afro fresh Band, DJ Sue, Djembe Monks, DJ Big Sky, DJ Wexey, Tribal Elements, Harmonic Rhythms, Lee McHoney and performed at Ibumba Festival, Intwasa Festival, Fusion Runway, Miss Professional Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Service Excellence Awards, Balcony TV Rooftops (South Africa), HIFA and China- Chengdu Festival.At #FirstFridaysZW, MJ Sings will share the stage with Harare velvet crooner Zuva as well as former half of Africa Revenge; Taz & The Experience.
#FirstFridaysZW
…is a collaborative project between the National Gallery of Zimbabwe and Enthuse Afrika. The nocturnal affair happens every first Friday of the month between 6-9 pm. #FirstFridaysZW is aimed at livening the gallery and drawing younger revellers to the space. Each month they engage in eclectic and ever-changing curated program of live music, outdoor theatre picnics, stand-up comedy and gallery tours.
The October edition is woozily entitled Cry Me A River and will see attendees immersing themselves in the beauty of words, music and emotions. Sitting indoor picnic-style, attendees can enjoy the healing, soothing power of great music.
